Planning a Visit Around the Show Season

How to fit a daytime visit around concert set-up in summer.

  1. Look up the show calendar

Before you fix a summer date, check TicketOne and the Taormina Arte listings. On show days the monument can close early or have the stage set up.

  2. Reserve the daytime ticket

Book the ticket with audio guide for a show-free day if you can. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before lets you move it if a concert is announced.

  3. Go early in the day

The park publishes 9:00 to 19:45, last entry 19:00. On event days reviewers were told the site would close early, so do not leave it to late afternoon.

  4. Bring ID for the handset

Reviewers say staff hold an original passport, ID card or driving licence while you use the audio guide. Copies were refused.

Checked November 2026

Concerts and Events at the Ancient Theatre

The summer season, where to buy, what is known about 2027 and how shows change a daytime visit.

When we checked in November 2026, nobody had published a 2027 programme for the Ancient Theatre of Taormina. The season follows a regular pattern, though. Concerts and festival nights fill the theatre from June to September, tickets go on sale through Italian ticket sellers, and none of them are sold on GetYourGuide.

If you are planning a trip now, you can book two things with fixed dates: a daytime visit to the empty theatre with the ticket with audio guide, from about $25 per person, and an evening of opera in town with the opera at the Nazarena Theatre, from about $34 per person (both checked November 2026). Add a concert later if one is announced for your dates.

What runs at the theatre in summer

The theatre, which people sometimes call the amphitheatre, hosts three kinds of event. The examples below come from the 2026 season, now over.

Event2026 examples2027 status (Nov 2026)
Pop and rock concertsBryan Adams 30 June, Claudio Baglioni 31 July and 1 August, Il Volo 22 August, Madame 13 SeptemberOne date listed, see below
Taormina Arte seasonSymphonic concert 2 September, theatre gala 3 September, dance 24 SeptemberNo programme published
Taormina Film Fest72nd edition, 10 to 14 JuneDates not announced

The concert list comes from a local listings site, and the Taormina Arte dates from reports in the Sicilian daily La Sicilia. The Fondazione Taormina Arte Sicilia runs its own season of concerts, theatre and dance across July to September. Opera has been staged here too: one events site lists a Taormina Opera Festival with Nabucco at the theatre in summer 2026. The opera that most visitors book is a different show, in a small hall in town (see Taormina opera).

What we know about 2027

Very little is confirmed yet. The one 2027 concert we found is Claudio Baglioni on 30 and 31 July 2027, listed by a festival site and a ticket seller. Treat it as provisional until a main seller carries it. The Taormina Film Fest has not announced 2027 dates; one listing says June 2027. No Taormina Arte 2027 programme had appeared.

The park’s late openings follow the same pattern. In summer 2026 the theatre stayed open from 9:00 to midnight, last entry 23:00, on 22 listed dates between June and September. No 2027 dates have been announced, so do not plan on a night visit outside a show until the park publishes them.

Where concert tickets are sold

TicketOne is the main seller for concerts at the Teatro Antico. Box Office Sicilia and CTBox are local alternatives, and Taormina Arte sells its own events through its own channels. We found no concert tickets on GetYourGuide, and a day ticket to the monument does not get you into a show.

A local guide puts seats on the stone tiers at roughly €40 to €50 and seats in the stalls at over €100 for the biggest names. Prices vary by show, so check the seller.

Italian listings file shows under concerti and spettacoli, and teatro antico taormina programma brings up the season’s bill once it is out.

Visiting the monument on a show day

Concerts need days of set-up, and the park publishes no calendar of it. On show days access can be restricted or the hours shortened. Reviewers of the audio-guide ticket describe what that looks like:

  • a stage, lights, metal stands and plastic chairs covering part of the stone seating
  • a large screen and film crews during the June 2026 film festival
  • arriving 30 minutes before last entry and being told the site would close early for an event, with no audio guide handed out
  • in 2025, one visitor turned away because of a private event

If you want to see the bare stone with nothing on stage, you have a better chance outside the June to September season, though reviewers have met stage equipment outside it too. In summer, check the seller’s calendar before you book a daytime slot and go in the morning. Our best time to visit page compares the months, and opening hours has the published times.

Booking your visit now

For the theatre by day, book the ticket with audio guide (4.5/5 from 3,161 reviews) or pay €14 at the gate (checked November 2026). Our tickets page compares the two. If you want a guide inside, the ticket with guided tour costs about $34 per person.

For an evening, the opera at the Nazarena Theatre runs on most evenings from April to November at Via Fontana Vecchia 3, in town and away from the Ancient Theatre. Standard seats cost about $34 and VIP about $56 per person (checked November 2026). The sunset walking tour with rooftop aperitif, about $157 per person, is another evening option, though it does not go into the theatre.

Getting back after a night concert

The old town is a limited-traffic zone, so park outside it unless you have a permit. ASM runs a shuttle every 15 minutes from the Lumbi car park into town. For a dawn show on 1 August 2026 it started at 04:15, so ask ASM about extra runs for your night. See parking and where to stay if you would rather walk home.

Read how to get there for the walk up from Corso Umberto, and when you have your travel dates, check dates for the daytime ticket.

Ratings and review counts are the operators' live figures on GetYourGuide when checked in November 2026 and shift as new reviews arrive.

"I thought it might be overrated as every review I read raved about it. Turns out they were right! An absolute must see. Opens at 9 so be waiting. After 10 it will be packed. We were able to take loads of photos without many people in them."

Scott

"Great views and historical value with the audio guide. I would prefer headphones rather than holding the recorder because it’s hard to take pictures at the same time."

Tricia

"Highly recommend getting the audio guide to better understand the Ancient theatre and the history behind it. They also offer a children’s audio guide. My 10 year old found it very informative and entertaining! Such a wonderful experience"

Katrina Gianna

"It was great to skip the long line at the ticket office and get our tickets. We would probably been in line for 30 minutes."

Linda M

"Absolutely beautiful this is an absolute must see in Taormina"

Angelo

"It was a wonderful day in Taormina. The pick up and drop off was smooth and had clear instructions. It was great having the day to ourselves to explore and shop."
