"I thought it might be overrated as every review I read raved about it. Turns out they were right! An absolute must see. Opens at 9 so be waiting. After 10 it will be packed. We were able to take loads of photos without many people in them."

How the Audio-Guide Ticket Works
From booking to the top of the cavea, including the ID check reviewers warn about.
Reserve a date
Pick your day and reserve. You can pay later and cancel free up to 24 hours before. The ticket is valid for one day and allows a single entry.
Pack original photo ID
Bring a passport, ID card or driving licence. Reviewers say staff keep it while you use the audio handset and refuse copies or photos on a phone.
Redeem at the theatre
Go to the Teatro Antico on Via del Teatro Greco. Everyone passes security, and some reviewers were sent to a window to swap the QR code for a paper ticket.
Walk at your own pace
There is no time limit inside. Commentary comes in English, French, Spanish or German, and reviewers spent 30 to 60 minutes in the theatre.

Which Theatre Ticket to Buy
Gate price, audio-guide ticket and guided tour side by side, with the free-entry rules.
You have three ways into the Ancient Theatre of Taormina. The park’s own ticket costs €14 at the gate, or €7 reduced (checked November 2026). The Ancient Theatre ticket with audio guide costs about $25 per person and adds commentary in four languages. The theatre ticket with a guided tour costs about $34 per person and adds a live guide for a listed 50 minutes.
For a first visit between June and September, book the audio-guide ticket. It is the most-reviewed way in, at 4.5/5 from 3,161 reviews, and for the extra over the gate price you get the story of the site and a date fixed in advance. Buy the plain gate ticket instead if you visit in the quieter months, travel with children under 18, or do not want to leave a passport at the desk for an audio handset. Each of those reasons is explained below.
Ticket prices side by side
| Option | Price (checked Nov 2026) | Theatre entry | Commentary | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Park ticket at the gate | €14 full, €7 reduced, free under 18 | Yes | None | Off-season visits, families, visits without commentary |
| Ticket with audio guide | about $25 per person | Yes, single entry | Audio handset, EN/FR/ES/DE | Independent visitors in the busy months |
| Ticket with guided tour | about $34 per person | Yes, single entry | Live guide, English or Italian | People who want to ask questions and have time to spare |
| Walking tour with theatre ticket | about $196 per person (private option) | Yes | Live guide, town and theatre | Small private parties who want the old town too |
The audio-guide listing breaks its price into a ticket, €5 for the audio guide and a booking fee, so most of the gap over €14 pays for the commentary and the booking. The walking tour with theatre ticket has only 4 reviews so far, so treat its 5.0/5 with care (our review).
Who should buy which ticket
The audio-guide ticket suits a summer visit, when you want to know what you are looking at. A local guide reports ticket-office waits of over an hour on summer weekends, and a booked ticket takes you out of the queue to pay. Read our review for what reviewers say about the commentary.
From November to March, buy at the gate. Several reviewers found little or no queue outside the peak months, and some felt they had paid extra for nothing. Families should also start here: under-18s go in free, and one family reported receiving handsets only for the paid tickets, two for five people. Arrive in the first hour after 9:00, which travel guides call the quietest.
Book the guided tour if a live guide matters more to you than a smooth morning. It scores 4.0/5 from 452 reviews. Many guides are praised, but low-star reviews describe late or missing guides, groups mixing English and Italian, and tours of 15 to 40 minutes. Our guided tours page compares it with the private walks, and audio guide or guided tour sets out the choice in detail.
Free entry and reduced tickets
The park’s rules, checked in November 2026:
- Under 18: free. Children under 12 must be with an adult.
- EU citizens aged 18 to 25: €7, half price. Non-EU visitors of the same age qualify only where their country offers the same to Italians.
- Disabled visitors: free, with one companion.
- First Sunday of the month: free for everyone. Taormina’s tourist board says tickets on those days are issued only on site, for a chosen time. The next first Sundays are 6 December 2026 and 3 January 2027; the park had not posted notices for them when we checked, so confirm the week before.
You claim free and reduced entry at the ticket office with a valid document. The tourist board also lists 25 April, 2 June and 4 November as free days. The park’s own page does not, so treat those as likely and check.
You may see €12 (reduced €6) quoted. That figure sits on an older price list for all the park’s sites; the theatre’s own ticket page shows €14 and €7, and a reseller dates the rise to July 2026. We use €14 (checked November 2026). Figures of €10 or €4 are years out of date, and the €16 on a tourist-board page may include a booking fee we could not confirm. Check the park’s ticket page before you go.
What skip-the-line means with the audio-guide ticket
With this ticket you have paid in advance, so you skip the queue to buy. You do not get a separate entrance. Everyone passes the security check, and several reviewers were sent to a window to swap the QR code for a paper ticket, which can mean a short queue anyway.
The listing describes an audio app, but reviewers describe a handheld device handed out at the site. In 2026 several reviewers say staff asked them to leave an original photo ID, a passport or driving licence, while they used it. Copies, phone photos and an offered cash deposit were refused, and visitors without the original went without commentary. If you would prefer not to leave a passport, carry a driving licence or ID card, or buy at the gate.
Where to buy the park ticket
The park sells its ticket at the office by the entrance, Via del Teatro Greco 40, and online through Aditus (aditusculture.com), the seller its ticket page links to. We could not confirm whether Aditus tickets carry a fixed time slot. The park prices each of its sites separately, and we found no combined ticket with Isola Bella or the Naxos museum.
Searching in Italian, teatro antico taormina biglietti leads to the same prices: intero is the full ticket and ridotto the reduced one.
A daytime ticket does not cover concerts. Those are sold separately, and our concerts and events page lists where.
Before you book
- Hours: the park publishes 9:00 to 19:45, last entry 19:00. The theatre closes much earlier in winter; travel guides give about 16:00 from November to mid-February. See opening hours.
- Show days: in summer the monument can close early on concert days, and stage set-up can cover part of the cavea. One reviewer arriving 30 minutes before last entry was told the site was closing early for an event and could not use the audio guide.
- Changes: both bookable tickets have free cancellation up to 24 hours before, which lets you move a date if a show is announced.
For the walk up from Corso Umberto, read how to get there, and when you know your day, check dates.

What Ticket Holders Say
Ratings and review counts are the operators' live figures on GetYourGuide when checked in November 2026 and shift as new reviews arrive.
"Great views and historical value with the audio guide. I would prefer headphones rather than holding the recorder because it’s hard to take pictures at the same time."
"Highly recommend getting the audio guide to better understand the Ancient theatre and the history behind it. They also offer a children’s audio guide. My 10 year old found it very informative and entertaining! Such a wonderful experience"
"It was great to skip the long line at the ticket office and get our tickets. We would probably been in line for 30 minutes."
"Absolutely beautiful this is an absolute must see in Taormina"
"It was a wonderful day in Taormina. The pick up and drop off was smooth and had clear instructions. It was great having the day to ourselves to explore and shop."

Greek Theatre Tickets: Common Questions
Prices, free entry and booking, checked November 2026.
The park charges €14 for a full ticket and €7 for EU citizens aged 18 to 25 (checked November 2026). Under-18s go in free. An older park price list still shows €12 and €6, so confirm on the park's ticket page before you go.
The park's ticket page links to Aditus (aditusculture.com) for online sales. You can also book a reseller ticket that adds commentary, such as the ticket with audio guide, from about $25 per person (checked November 2026). Either way you can still buy at the office by the entrance on Via del Teatro Greco.
Yes, the park's rules make entry free on the first Sunday of each month. Tickets for those days are issued on site only, so expect a queue. The next dates are 6 December 2026 and 3 January 2027, but the park had not confirmed them when we checked, so look for its notice that week.
Visitors under 18 enter free with proof of age, and children under 12 must be with an adult. If you book the audio-guide ticket, one family reported getting handsets only for the paid tickets, so the gate may suit a family better.
In summer, usually yes: it costs about $25 against €14 at the gate, and you skip the queue to pay and get commentary in English, French, Spanish or German. From November to March, queues are often short, so the gate ticket is the cheaper choice unless you want the commentary. See audio guide or guided tour.
No. A pre-booked ticket means you do not queue to pay. You still pass the security check, and some reviewers had to exchange the QR code at a window before going in.
Reviewers in 2026 say staff hold an original photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, while you use the audio handset. Copies and phone photos were refused. Bring the original or plan to visit without commentary.
No. Concerts and shows at the theatre are ticketed separately through sellers such as TicketOne. Our concerts and events page explains where to look.
